Panelists Bios

Tina Fox (’94) 

Tina Fox is an inspirational leader with a 24-year career as an award-winning salesperson and business development executive in both Fortune 100 and successful Start-Up companies.

Today, Fox is the Founder of Fox Paradigm Consulting and an Owner of Cobalt Settlements in Arlington, Virginia. She has a strong history of identifying opportunities, which trigger multimillion-dollar growth. With the right balance of “IQ and EQ”, she has led individuals and teams to consistently exceed sales goals and establish new standards in business excellence.
She is a champion for women in business and mentors aspiring women leaders. She is a speaker at events supporting women in business and leadership. In 2015, she founded a group in Northern Virginia, “Women in Business”, which connects over 950 businesswomen focusing on networking, business problem solving and access to local accessible leadership.

Proud of her Chinese/American heritage and being raised as a U.S. Army Military “Brat” she went on to earn her undergraduate degree, with honors, in Communications/Public Relations at James Madison University. Fox currently lives in Lakeridge, Virginia with her husband, two sons and two “water dogs.” 

Jamie Jones Miller (’99)

 

Jamie Jones Miller (’99) has worked on Capitol Hill since 2004 and currently serves as the Chief of Staff for Congressman Robert J. Wittman of Virginia. Miller oversees all facets of the Congressman’s official duties, including his roles as Chairman of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Seapower and Projection Forces and as Chairman of the U.S. Naval Academy Board of Visitors. She also oversees the Congressman's campaign and fundraising operations. She previously served as Legislative Director for Congressman J. Randy Forbes of Virginia and as an Associate at Capital Partnerships, a Virginia-based government relations firm.

Miller received a B.A. in International Affairs from James Madison University in 1999 where she played varsity basketball and joined Alpha Sigma Tau. Miller served on Alpha Sigma Tau's National Council for nine years and is currently the sorority's representative on the Board of Directors of the National Panhellenic Conference. She is the recipient of the 2012 JMU Fraternity/Sorority Life Outstanding Alumni Award. Miller recently completed a three-year term as president of the JMU Alumni Association and is currently a member of the JMU Political Science Alumni Board of Directors. Miller and her husband Tim, a double Duke, live in Falls Church, Virginia with their dogs Duke and Gunnar.

Chiquita King (’09, ’11M)

Hailing from Southampton County/Franklin, Virginia, Double-Duke Chiquita King attended James Madison University from 2005-2011.  During her tenure, she was heavily involved in various campus organizations, including the Centennial Scholars Program, Office of Orientation, Student Government Association and the Lambda Chi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.  In addition, she received the 2007 Diversity Enhancement Award; won three JMU NAACP Image Awards, including 2010 Graduate Student of the Year; and was voted Miss Madison by her peers during her senior year.

King resides in northern Virginia and works as an instructional systems designer for Booz Allen Hamilton. In this role, she oversees, creates and maintains training materials and learning solutions for defense clients. Her star continues to rise at the company, where she recently received her second promotion in her three years.

She gives back to JMU as a member of the President’s Council, Women for Madison Executive Advisory Council and the Black Alumni Chapter.  In addition, she attends events with the MetroDukes Alumni Chapter in the D.C. are and serves as a chapter officer with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. King also participates in numerous community service projects and programs in her area.

 Dr. Patrick Murphy (’81) 

Patrick Murphy has served as superintendent of Arlington Public Schools since July 1, 2009. An Arlington County resident, Murphy has been an educator since 1988, serving the Fairfax County Public Schools for nineteen of the intervening years in a variety of instructional leadership positions. During the final four years, he served as assistant superintendent for accountability, where he was responsible for testing, research and evaluation, and division- and school-based strategic planning.

The Virginia Association of School Superintendents selected Murphy as its 2015 Virginia Superintendent of the Year and he was a finalist for the 2015 National Superintendent of the Year by AASA. Under his leadership, APS earned the Medallion of Excellence in June 2014 from Virginia’s U.S. Senate Productivity Award program based on Baldrige criteria and Arlington’s priority for continuous improvement.

Murphy is a native of Northern Virginia. He resides in Arlington, Virginia with his wife Barbara.

Jeanne Wood (’88)

Jeanne Wood is the founder and principal of Rosewood Consulting LLC, an independent consulting firm specializing in leadership development, executive coaching and training. She has experience as an HR Executive, board member and internal executive coach which gives her a unique perspective on the challenges facing business leaders. She leverages this experience in advising leaders on the people impact of critical business decisions and is known as an effective facilitator of organizational change. She is passionate about developing leaders and utilizes several assessment tools to help clients identify core strengths to enhance organizational and personal success. Wood has coached and trained individuals from a variety of organizations including, Fannie Mae, Northrop Grumman, Johnson & Johnson and Kellogg Company.

Prior to founding Rosewood Consulting LLC, Wood spent more than 20 years in the financial services and oil and gas industries. She was a Vice President Human Resources at Freddie Mac where she worked with senior executives to lead the company through the largest housing crisis in the history of the United States. She has also held HR leadership roles at JP Morgan Chase, American Express, Texaco and Bell Atlantic. Wood earned an MBA from the University of Michigan and a BBA from James Madison University. She has an Advanced Certification in Executive Coaching from Columbia University and is a certified John Maxwell Leadership Trainer. Wood lives in Maryland with her husband and daughter and is the proud mom of JMU freshman Micah Wood.

Facilitator Bio

 

Sean Lowry ('10) 

Sean Lowry graduated from JMU in 2010 majoring in international affairs and economics. After graduating from JMU, Sean went on to earn a Master of Public Policy degree specializing in international security and economic policy at the University of Maryland (College Park), and he was an assistant coach for JMU's policy debate team for five years. Sean is currently an analyst in public finance at the Congressional Research Service, where he provides economic analysis on a range of issues to members of Congress and their staff. Sean currently lives in Washington and maintains his ties to the JMU community through his service on the Department of Political Science's Alumni Board.
