Join the Harrisonburg Alumni Chapter for an evening of fun on the Duke Hall Lawn, Sunday June 29th. This event includes an exclusive tour of the newly renovated Duke Hall, an outdoor concert featuring the 29th Army Band, and family picnic opportunity!
At 4:45 we will meet on the lawn between Duke Hall and the music building and take a guided tour of the newly renovated and expanded Duke Hall, which houses the School of Art, Design, and Art History. This $42 Million project recently concluded and will fully open to students this fall. Please join us for this exclusive tour, led by Dr. William Wightman, Director of Art and Art History (tour offered regardless of weather).
At 6pm the 29th Army Band will provide an evening of music on the lawn between Duke Hall and the music building. We encourage you to bring your family & friends, your picnic, and lawn chairs and/or a blanket for outdoor seating. Please note there will not be food or drinks provided. Please participate in any or all events as you and your family and friends are able, and help us promote this event on your own social media websites!
Plenty of parking is available at The Forbes Center in the Warsaw Street Parking Deck. Due to the renovation of Memorial Hall, a rain location for the concert may not be available. If the weather is threatening, call 540-568-6987 for updates.
About the band: This outdoor summer concert features the 29th Army Band (a military wind and percussion band). What could be better than hearing an army band playing patriotic and popular music just before the 4th of July? The 29th Division Army Band has been in existence since early 1917 and has fought in World Wars I & II, Bosnia and Iraq. The band has supported the troops by providing morale-building concerts and providing ceremonial backgrounds for funerals, changes of command and community concerts. The band has also performed in Bosnia and at the 60th anniversary of D-Day. Chief Warrant Officer Donald Carson will be conducting the band. The concert is sponsored by JMU’s College of Visual and Performing Arts.
